Serena Ryder & Reuben and the Dark
We’re thrilled to welcome Serena back to the Stockey Stage, just in time for Christmas. Call it an early Christmas present, from us to you.
Serena Ryder does what she does naturally and effortlessly, and has done what she does naturally and effortlessly since she was a young girl. This girl was performing by the age of eight, cut her first record at 16 and could boast of being a major-label artist with a gold-selling album, 2006’s If Your Memory Serves You Well and a gold-selling single, the lingeringly knee-weakening Weak in the Knees, all before she’d even turned 25.
Since then, Serena has sold well over a million singles, won six Juno Awards and has had her songs placed in over 50 TV shows and commercials, including Grey’s Anatomy, VEEP and Suits. Her single Stompa is a quadruple platinum hit in Canada, and the follow up release, What I Wouldn’t Do, went platinum. Stompa also hit No. 1 at AAA radio in the U.S. for eight weeks (the most weeks at No. 1 since Adele).
This spring she released her latest album, Utopia, and is riding high on the current single Electric Love.
Special guests Reuben and the Dark will be opening for Serena!
Calgary's Reuben and the Dark is a collection of five multi-instrumentalists and vocalists led by Reuben Bullock. The group makes chilling, emotive folk and soul driven by dark, introspective lyrics that explore the duality of misery and joy.
Boasting a rare chemistry between all members across western Canada, Reuben and the Dark has emerged organically from Canada's stellar independent scene on the strength of often anthemic compositions that translate the language of emotion into song with haunting clarity.
Their debut album is produced by the UK's Chris Hayden (Florence & the Machine) and Canada's Stephen Kozmeniuk (Madonna, Nicki Minaj, and The Game feat Kanye West) and is being mixed by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele).
