DALA
8:00 PM
Proud recipients of the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year, female duo Dala have established themselves as major rising stars in the pop-folk circuit.
The sheer
joy with which they perform is infectious, turning first-time listeners into
instant fans. Dala have toured across Canada six times, opening for artists
such as Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Matthew Good, Stuart McLean of the CBC’s
Vinyl Café and most recently, Chantal Kreviazuk who they opened for here at the
Stockey Centre in December 2009. No strangers to the festival scene, they have
also performed at The New Orleans Jazz Festival, The Edmonton Folk Festival,
California’s Strawberry Festival and Mariposa. In 2009, they were the only
Canadian act invited play at the 50th Anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival. And recently announced, they have been nominated for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year: Group at the 2011 Juno Awards!
Drawing upon influences like The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Dala write songs that are both catchy and insightful. Amanda’s ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Sheila’s velvety alto, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark. To accentuate their beautiful voices, Dala will be using the perfect Stockey Centre acoustics to record a live album at this show!
The combination of this unique group in the unique Stockey venue on Friday, May 27th, 2011 is something you do not want to miss. Tickets go on sale to Members Only on Wednesday, February 9th, 2011 at 9:00am and to the general public on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 at 9:00am.
Hope to see everyone here for a great show!
